While the Rangers and Rays take a day off to move the series to Arlington, I thought I would still share some random thoughts about baseball and otherwise that have been crossing my mind since the series started.
First of all, on the issue of instant replay, I would be in favor of bringing in more technology to help out the umpires. They don't want to make a bad call, and in most cases are sure that the calls they make are the correct ones. But we are all human, and umpires will make mistakes that can cause games to change, as has been documented in three of the four divisional match ups already. Though it would make baseball purists cringe, it would also make sure that games are won and lost by players, and not umpires, which I think everyone would agree is how it should be.
I've been watching the Rangers series on TBS, and bits and pieces of other games, then jumping around to MLB Network pretty often, too. I'm a big fan of the MLBN analysis. I'm not real sure about the TBS pregame with Dennis Eckersley, Cal Ripken, Jr., and David Wells. They were all really good players, but I'm not sold on that group of analysts working together. It's like comparing the FOX NFL Sunday guys against the CBS football pregame. No contest, there.
And while we're on the topic of TV, I've pretty much memorized the UPS logistics song, without trying or wanting to. Good grief, do they have to show it between every half inning? I'm ok with the Conan commercials, because they are different and funny, but if I wasn't a Conan fan, I'm sure those would be irritatingly frequent, too.
CJ Wilson said on the radio this morning that he would be available in the bullpen for the rest of this series, if he's needed. Man, if this thing goes five games, imagine starting with Cliff Lee, then bringing in Wilson to finish them off. That's not to mention the already stout Rangers 'pen.
I realize the Rangers Claw and Antlers are goofy, but I'd rather have that attached to my team than the Rays and their mohawks, mullets, and plaid.
Cross your fingers that I'll be done at work by the first pitch at 4PM tomorrow. Enjoy the game, this is Rangers baseball at it's best.
