Rangers Avoid Arbitration with Wilson and Cruz

Lefty starter CJ Wilson and outfielder Nelson Cruz both agreed to one-year contracts with the Rangers today, thus avoiding salary arbitration.

Wilson will make $7 million in 2011 and is eligible to become a free agent at the end of the season.

Cruz will make $3.65 million in 2011, but will not be eligible for free agency until after the 2013 season.  He will be eligible for salary arbitration the next two off-seasons unless he agrees to an extention that covers those years.

These two guys are a huge part of what the Rangers accomplished in 2010, and are being counted on for similar production if the 2011 season is going to be anything close to last year.

The last three arbitration eligibles are outfielder Josh Hamilton, right-handed reliever Frank Francisco, and right-handed reliever Darren O'Day.  Expect them all to reach agreements before the arbitration hearings begin.

The contracts page on this site has been updated to reflect these signings.
