Ron Washington Finishes Second for A.L. Manager of the Year

A guy named Ron brought home the American League Manager of the Year Award for 2010 today, but it was Gardenhire, not Washington.

Gardenhire lead the Minnesota Twins into the post-season, beating out the Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox in their division.  They once again got squashed by the Yankees in the first round, but post-season successes and failures don't count into post-season award voting.

Meanwhile, Ron Washington helped the Rangers finally get past the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Oakland Athletics to win the A.L. West for the first time since 1999.  The club has improved their win total every year under Washington's leadership, and it comes as a shock to me that he did not bring home this award.

I have already expressed what I feel about Wash when I wrote about his contract extension two weeks ago, but I'll add that I don't think there is a manager in baseball today that I would rather have running my team than Ron Washington.  As a motivator and teacher, he is second to none.
