Lee Declines, Francisco Accepts Arbitration Offer

As expected, Cliff Lee declined the Rangers offer of salary arbitration, and Frank Francisco accepted.  This means that Frankie is now under contract as a Ranger for 2011, with his salary to be determined at a later time.  Lee declining does not rule out his return to the team.  It just means he will not be coming back on a one-year contract to be determined through the arbitration process.  If he leaves, the Rangers will receive two draft picks as compensation.

In a previous article about arbitration, I listed off the Type A free agents who had been offered arbitration.  Francisco and Toronto reliever Jason Frasor appear to be the only two from that group who have accepted arbitration from their 2010 clubs.  The rest are seeking multi-year deals with high price tags.
