10:11 - Woohoo! (Ryan)
10:11 - Woohoo! (Brett)
10:12 - Woo hoo!!!! We did it! (Brian)
That about says it all. I tried my best to share my thoughts on last night's post, but it was still in the process of sinking in, so it came out all jumbled. I'll see if I can do a little better here.
I was a little concerned when I saw Cliff Lee take the mound in the bottom of the first and his playoff beard was gone. Obviously, Lee doesn't need superstition to be awesome.
There's not a lot more about the game I can say that hasn't been said or shown on TV already, so I'll move on to the post game celebration.
Jenn and Joshua decided to stay at her mom's house last night, just in case the game didn't go well and I got in a bad mood (fair enough). So it was just me and Hank, and I could make all the noise I needed to without getting in trouble. I've been watching most games in the rocking chair, and I have a habit of sitting a certain way with our pitchers on the mound. But when Upton popped up Lee's 120th pitch, I popped out of the chair, started smiling, and when it came down in Elvis' glove, I yelled "YES!!!" and jumped up and down like a little kid. Then I ran in the other room so I could be sure and record all of celebration action on both of our TV's.
It was awesome to see Josh Hamilton get to celebrate in the locker room, too. Josh didn't get to be a part of the first celebration in Oakland, because he's a recovering drug addict and alcoholic, so being showered in champagne and beer wouldn't be the best idea. But this time the team surprised him by bringing him in the clubhouse and drenching him in ginger ale before breaking out the hard stuff. Good move, guys.
I absorbed as much of that time as I could until about 11:30, then decided I needed to celebrate, too. I'm not a drinker, and we don't have any Canada Dry in the fridge, so I went to Whataburger and got a chocolate shake. No, I didn't shake it all over myself, I drank it.
When I got back home, I watched the MLB Network analysis before showering and getting to bed around 1 AM. The thought did cross my mind to drive out to DFW airport to join the group of Rangers fans welcoming the team home at around 3 AM, but because it was so late and I have less than a working knowledge of the airport geography, I decided to get my rest instead.
Perspective is a big thing here. There is still baseball to play. We haven't won a championship yet, but we've won something, which we've never done before. So it's ok to celebrate today. For the first time the Rangers showed that they are not the 'same old Rangers', but instead they are one of the final four baseball teams alive in mid-October.
I'll post an ALCS preview tomorrow, but today is reserved for taking in what happened last night, and over the last week. Absorb what you can, enjoy it, put on your Rangers hat, and throw the claw and some random people.
This is fun.
