CJ Wilson was pitching a masterpiece. CC Sabathia got rocked and pulled out early. Just needed 6 more outs without giving up 4 runs. Then the eighth inning happened.
My prediction was that the Yankees would win this series in six games. My biggest concern for the Rangers to lead me to go that direction was the bullpen. However, Ron Washington played it right, bringing in the veteran Darren Oliver to put out the fire with two switch hitters coming up. Oliver just wasn't on his game, and the bullpen arm I trusted the most going into the series walked the only two batters he faced, setting up the disasterous turn of events that led to the Yankees taking the lead.
This team misses a healthy Frank Francisco.
I don't know how there's any way we can lose that game and still win the series. But that's why they play the games.
I said this before game 1, but as long as Texas has at least a split by the time they get to Lee in game three, then they are in ok shape....so a win today and I really think all is OK.
ReplyDeleteYeah, big ups to Lewis and the pen for today's rebound to take a split to NY.
